Privacy statement

This privacy statement explains what personal data we process when you visit this website or send a booking request, why we process it, and what your rights are.

Who is responsible

The controller of your personal data is Beter.nu B.V., based in Vught, the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce no. 73474851). If you have any questions about your data, email maarten@beter.nu.

What data we process

When you fill in the booking form, we process the information you give us:

• name
• organisation
• email address
• phone number (optional)
• date of the event
• city or venue
• type of session (keynote, workshop, host or other)
• expected number of attendees
• budget indication (optional)
• how you heard about Maarten
• your message

Only name, email address and organisation are required. The other fields are optional.

Your request also includes how you arrived on the site: the campaign codes in the link (UTM tags) if you came from an ad or newsletter, the website you clicked through from and the first page you visited. This is kept only in your browser session until you send the request, and we use it to see which channels bring in requests.

Only share what your request needs. Please don't include sensitive information, such as details about your health, in the message field.

Orders (signed books)

When you order a signed book, we process your name, email address, delivery address, any personal dedication and the order itself, to sign, ship and invoice your book. Payment runs through Mollie (iDEAL); we only see the confirmation that you paid. Invoices are kept for seven years, as the law requires.

What we use it for

We only use your data to respond to your booking request: to check availability, send you a proposal and prepare the talk with you. We don't use it for newsletters or marketing, and we never sell it.

Legal basis

We process your data because you ask us for a proposal for a talk. These are steps taken at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). We only collect data on how you use the website if you consent to it (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR).

How we store your data

When you submit the form, your request is emailed to us through Resend, an email delivery service that processes your data only on our instructions. We also keep a copy of your request on this site's web server, so nothing gets lost if an email fails to arrive. If any data is processed outside the European Economic Area, this only happens with appropriate safeguards in place, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. The website and our administration run on Hetzner servers in Helsinki (Finland, within the EU). We have data processing agreements with Resend and Hetzner.

How long we keep it

If your request does not lead to a booking, we keep your data for up to 2 years after our last contact, and then delete it. Data relating to bookings, orders and invoices is kept for 7 years, as Dutch tax law requires for our accounts.

Analytics and cookies

This site uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed most. These tools only place cookies if you agree to them in the cookie banner. If you don't, we don't set any analytics cookies.

Without your consent, we only use the functional storage the site needs to work, such as remembering your cookie choice. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time in the site's cookie settings, or by clearing the cookies in your browser.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data. You can also object to the processing, ask us to restrict it, or ask for a copy of your data in a portable format. Where you have given consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Send your request to maarten@beter.nu and we'll reply within one month.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, please let us know first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

Changes

We may update this privacy statement from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
